4. High- Power and Low-Power Distance <권력중시 & 권력약화>

Power distance refers to the degree of inequality between more powerful and less powerful individuals. High power-distance cultures are rigidly stratified. The bosses make up the elite, and the powerless who are expected to follow orders. Low power-distance cultures support equality for all people. They value independence and do not seek obedience.

권력을 중시하는 문화와 그렇지 않은 문화는 불평등의 정도로  대별 할 수 있다. 권력위주의 서열문화는 엘리트집단을 만들고 명령에 복종하도록 강요한다. 반면, 권력이 약화된 문화에서는 모든 사람들의 평등과 개인적 가치를 중시하며 복종을 강요하지 않는다.

5. High-Context and Low-Context Cultures<고감도, 맥락 & 저감도, 맥락>

In high-context cultures the members' messages are implicit and the bulk of a message resides either in the physical context or is internalized in the communicators. Much information comes nonverbally. They read nonverbal cues skilfully and are capable of understanding facial and bodily movements, gestures, and environmental signs more meaningful. Low-context cultures are the opposite. The message is in the words uttered, and it usually comes in elaborate detail, clearly communicated. Information must be provided explicitly, usually in words. Less aware of nonverbal cues, environment and situation.

고맥락문화에서는  정보의 대부분이 물리적 맥락에 있거나 개인속에 내면화되어 언어로 표출된 메시지가 거의 없는 커뮤니케이션 방법을 쓴다. 이문화의 사람들은 비언어의 요소를 잘 읽을 줄 알아야하고, 얼굴표정, 신체적 움직임, 제스츄어의 사용이 중요하다.  저맥락문화에서는 정보의 대부분이 확실하게 드러난 코드속에 있다. ‘코드’란, 언어의 기호체계 또는 말하는 방식을 두루 일컫는 단어인데 직접표현을 다한다. 라고 이해하면 된다.
