Tip for the ECC Parents About English Education
-
Tip for the ECC Parents;
On a personal note with the best in mind for your child: As you think about your child’s future English educational needs, I would advise you to be very careful of the ‘private teaching’environment in Korea. From what I see going on in Korea, most Western teachers are successful teachers in the English institutes and academies like ECC because those institutions have established methodologies and teaching approaches in place. However, many western teachers in Korea don’t have the experience or educational background in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) to be successful ‘private teachers’. Most are in it just for the money. If private teaching is the direction you are going in, then I would suggest you make sure the teacher has the required skill sets to teach young learners. They should be aware of how to present the consonant inventory and vowel system when teaching phonics; understands the differences between the processes of first language acquisition and second language acquisition and how to develop lessons based on what is known about Second Language acquisition; adopt a principled approach to language teaching, rather than using methodologies that may not be applicable to every teaching situation; can explain the principles that govern grammar. This won’t be an easy task to find.
